18.65 Million iPhones Sold: Apple Reports Record Earnings

Apple's profit almost doubled in the fiscal second quarter, with a net profit of $5.99 billion, or $6.40 per diluted share ($3.07 billion, or $3.33, a year earlier). Sales jumped 83 percent to $24.7 billion in the quarter.

Impressive figures for this second fiscal quarter (Jan-Mar2011), compared over the year-ago quarter:

  • 18.65 million iPhones, +113%
  • 4.69 million iPads
  • 3.76 million Macs,  +28%
  • 9.02 million iPods, - 17%

U.S. Mobile Market Share: Android Platform Now Accounts for 1 in 3 Smartphone Users


comScore, reports key trends in the U.S. mobile phone industry during the three month average period ending February 2011. The study surveyed more than 30,000 U.S. mobile subscribers and found Samsung to be the top handset manufacturer overall with 24.8 percent market share. Google Android led among smartphone platforms with 33.0 percent market share.

69.5 million people in the U.S. owned smartphones during the three months ending in February 2011, up 13 percent from the preceding three-month period. Google Android grew 7.0 percentage points since November, strengthening its #1 position with 33.0 percent market share. RIM ranked second with 28.9 percent market share, followed by Apple with 25.2 percent. Microsoft (7.7 percent) and Palm (2.8 percent) rounded out the top five.
